Friday 10th August
Bob has been a fan of RM Williams shops and products, so
a visit to Adelaide would not have been complete without a visit to Percy
Street, Prospect. These premises are on
the site of the company’s original factory/workshop and were the home of R.M.’s
father. The building is home to a museum which features the history of the
founder, R.M. Williams as well as tracing the legend of the Australian
stockman.
By way of explanation, Reginald Murray (R.M) Williams was
born in 1908 on a farm in mid-north South Australia and since the age of 16
worked through many different careers, including camel boy, drover, well
digger, bootmaker, miner, businessman, historian, author and leatherworker. R.
M. Williams is the leading name in the Australian bush outfitting business with
sales of over $50 million a year. The company has retail concerns in over 100
locations in Australia, New Zealand, London and New York.
Bob bought a pair of boots a while back and tells me they
fit like a glove and are extremely comfortable to wear.
As a significant birthday is looming, my
present was bought today – a new pair of boots, so I’m looking forward to being
kind to my feet.
