Tuesday 7th August
Today we ventured into the Barossa Valley to explore the
beauty of the region as well as capture the ambience of each little town, named
Lyndoch, Angaston, Tanunda and Nurioopta.
One of the main items on our agenda today was to visit Maggie Beer’s
kitchen garden shop.
We have both
enjoyed watching re-runs of the series “The Chef and the Cook”, in which Maggie
cooks with a chef, Simon, so it was opportune to be able to have lunch at the
premises and watch a cooking demonstration (sadly not by Maggie herself) in the
very same kitchen where the series was made.
The shop had many different tasting/sampling tables of chutneys, sauces,
pates and wines. One could have possibly
had their fill on the generous samples, however the pumpkin soup and our pate
plates were certainly very tasty.
We also enjoyed the view over the valley from a lookout
at Mengler Hill not far from a little place called Bethany. As well as a great view there were many
sculptures on this hill ( a bit of a copy from Broken Hill I think!!). This one sculpture by Kevin Free is named Persephone
the Greek Goddess of spring who is inviting the visitor to sit down, pause and
relax.
