LAS VEGAS
This morning we were up early to catch a bus from Los
Angeles to Las Vegas, a distance of about 420km. We were able to secure the
front seat and had a wonderful view for the entire journey. The bus was a luxury one with a dedicated
guest hostess who provided us with snacks and drinks for the entire
journey. She told me she had been an
airline steward for 9 years, however the economic downturn had seen her laid
off, so she is now getting used to the “bumps” on the bus, which she said were
so much more noticeable than on a plane.
Vegas appeared from nowhere quite quickly and we had to
remind ourselves it is a city in the middle of a desert. It is unique, crazy, fun, sleazy, opulent and
tacky all wrapped up in one.
The light
shows at the front of many of the buildings just on dark were wonderful to
watch and certainly drew the crowds like a raffle in a club – as soon as it
finished the dispersal was rapid.
