Saturday 3rd November
I became friendly with the hotel clerk, Carlos who gave me a
number of activities to do today. He
recommended we see the Crystal Cathedral about 3 km from the hotel. This cathedral in its heyday was the domain
of Rev. Robert Schiller, an evangelist who broadcast “The Hour of Power” across
many TV stations, and I do remember seeing it on Australian TV at some
time. The family has been fractured with
siblings fighting with each other over the millions it has made, so much so
that the church declared bankruptcy and was sold to the Catholics. It looks like it is still functioning to an
extent, however the LA newspapers indicate the court case is nearly at an end.
It was too difficult to take my own photo, however this one from the net does
show how beautiful this cathedral is.
We walked further down the road on a very hot Saturday
morning to find the Orange County Outlet Mall, where unnecessary retail
shopping was done and it was like having too much to eat at dinner. We brought the goodies back to the hotel and
then wondered how we were going to pack them in the suitcase. This trip the USA postal service will be
seeing a bit more of us as we send parcels home ahead of ourselves.
We found a lovely seafood buffet restaurant about 3km from
the hotel, so by the time we had enjoyed too much of a good thing we felt
heartened by the fact that we could walk home and feel more comfortable.
