Sunday 1st July
Today we venture across the border into South
Australia. We know about the quarantine
restrictions this time, so I have used up all the vegetables and made a big pot
of chicken and vegetable soup, and we finished the fruit with our
breakfast. We now have to wait until the
first reasonable size town across the border to stock up on fresh supplies.
Looking at the map and websites I don’t think I can expect any big Woolworths
or Aldi – looks like a Foodland and we all know how expensive they can be!!
It was one of our longest drives – about 300 km, although
Bob reassured me that while the driving was not difficult, the constant
headwind was just something to be
endured. I leave this part of the trip
to him – he enjoys being behind the wheel, while I am happy to soak up the
scenery. Cockburn was the little town on
the border and we were waiting, waiting and watching to be pulled over and have
the truck and caravan searched for that contraband, nothing happened and we saw
nobody in any authority to give us the 3rd degree.
We passed through little towns named Olary, Yunta, Oodla
Wirra and our destination Peterborough.
I am naming these towns as a few readers of this blog have written
emails to us commenting that they are re-living a previous journey and our trip
is refreshing their minds.
At Peterborough we found a camp spot along with a few
others and enjoyed the peace and quiet until “toot toot” – the Indian Pacific
train was travelling along its thrice weekly journey at a cracking pace.
