Friday 30th November
Farewell to Montreal. Francis and Heidi armed us with breakfast for the train and we then commenced our 11 hour trip to New York on Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) where we will stay overnight. The snow was still on the ground well into New York state and gave us some good views.  It is always difficult taking photos from a moving train so these views will remain in our minds rather than in the photo album.
About mid-afternoon the train developed engine problems so we sat for 5 hours awaiting a decision to be made and a bus to be dispatched to collect us.  Fortunately there was a good wi-fi connection on the train, the staff kept us fully informed with the progress and we were able to go for a walk up and down the carriages to eliminate stiffness in our joints from prolonged sitting.  We finally boarded our bus for a 2 hour journey to the Albany railway station from where we then proceeded to our destination for the night in New York
While our hotel had a lovely welcoming big bed and was located in a quiet place we didn’t have very much time to enjoy it or the surroundings. (www.hamptoninnyonkers.com)
We have put this hotel on our list for a return visit if ever we come this way again.
