Monday 10th December

We had been approached twice by the same gentlemen here in Washington to home exchange with them, however the timing was never right.  I noticed on the map that they lived only a short distance from where we are currently staying, so I contacted Bob and Vic and asked them to join us for lunch one day.  They went one better and invited us to come to lunch today along with Vic’s fellow volunteers from the Kennedy Centre for a Christmas get together.  It was a delightful way to spend a Monday and we met some dedicated people, some who had been volunteering for 30 years at the centre. Their Christmas tree was decorated so artfully and regaled their living room.  Bob baked a hummingbird cake which any Masterchef would give their eye teeth to emulate – it was simply “to die for”!!!  It must have been at least 7” (18 cm) high, and I truly have never seen one home baked so perfectly. Vic is in the front of the picture in the red top and Bob is in the back of the photo in red as well.
