Saturday 1st December
We were sustained for the day
with a delicious full breakfast and left on the train for our final
destination, McLean in Virginia, which is very close to Washington DC. The taxi
driver was certainly not a native of USA and challenged me to guess his place
of birth, with the right answer guaranteeing a free fare. He told us he was
from Africa and gave me three chances. I guessed Sudan, but he was from
neighbouring Somalia – close but not close enough – will have to brush up on my
geography.
As we arrived quite late in the
afternoon we were very pleased to see the previous home exchange couple had
left some food items which needed to be consumed – enough to throw together an
evening meal and it also meant we didn’t have to go out in an unfamiliar car (
a hybrid Toyota Prius) looking for a supermarket in a dark neighbourhood.
